Open Showing Show

Photos from the day are at www.blue-print-studios.co.uk

Super day with entries pretty good  considering it became so windy, in fact at one point the toilet actually left the floor...we were all wondering whether Helen had decided to do her levitation act again!.

Our judges were all very helpful with loads of tips for the future . It was brilliant to see our up and coming young members  doing their thing, I think we will have some great future competitors for our club..
If you look on the photo website the frame by frame photos of the two potentially serious falls are plain to see. One working hunter pony decided to join the pony show ring in rather a dramatic way!!
Many thanks to some extra special helpers on the day who stuck out there duties to the bitter end despite the wind, Mandy definitely had the best place all day and is fast becoming the head entry secretary around. Thanks to the stewards and judges and all who helped set up and put away, to Corrie who stood in for Elizabeth for a while and then we couldn't get her away from the judge!...he was quite nice though!!!!!!!.
Thanks to Ken , I don't know what we would do without you...glad you are enjoying your quiet retirement!!!!.

Well done to our two members who got into the supreme line up, Nicola Shone and William Blackshaw and to Will who got reserve to a non member.
A super day!!

National Hunter Trial Championships 2008 at Aston-le-walls

Very early on Sunday 1st June I arrived at the McLellan household to travel down to Aston-le-walls. The seniors had competed the day before and had finished a very credible 4th in the novice championships – the juniors had something to aim for now! I am led to believe that the seniors walked the course with glasses of wine in both hands; obviously this is the way forward!

With just half an hour till we arrived on site both Zoe and Ciara finally fell asleep only to be woken ten minutes later to get dressed! Dressed and cups of tea in hand, Zoe, Ciara, Victoria, Bog and I set about walking the novice course. The course was up to height and wide for a novice course, but even the size of the course did not stop Zoe and Ciara from ‘gossiping’!

By now Gemma had arrived and the team was ready to compete. Zoe was first on the course and was a great pathfinder coming back with no jumping faults although a little fast! Next Ciara, who at 9 years old was the youngest competitor in the competition, tackled the course and she rode with aggression and confidence – could we have the next Pippa Funnell in the making?! Due to confused fence judges allowing people to stand in front of the fence she was jumping, Ciara accumulated 20faults which was a shame as she did nothing wrong. A little slip up 4 from home meant that Ciara and Henry retried for the day but believe me they will be back. They put a lot of seniors to shame. Victoria was up next and rode out of the start box very confidently. A lovely clear and a few time faults meant we were back in contention. Our anchorman was Gemma who needed to complete the course for the team to finish. Unfortunately a few hesitations blotted their round but they completed which is what the team needed. The team finished a very credible 12th which is fantastic as it was the first time at the Championships for the whole team – watch out as they will be back and more aggressive next year!

Charlotte and Zoe then contested the pairs and although us supporters thought they were stopping to gossip on the course, is was in fact part of their strategy to get the time right. They confidently followed each other round and completed with just a few time faults which meant they finished 4th, which was fantastic as this was a new event. However before the competition started we did have a mad panic as Charlotte had lost her tack locker keys!

Next up was our open team or the ‘olduns’ as some of them are now. I can safely say that after walking the course both Beth and Harriet were a little quiet as neither of them had jumped such a big and technical course before! Pete took it all in his stride, being a bloke, but in fact I think he was just better at hiding his fear!!

Charlotte was first on the course and what can I say, she judged her round perfectly, clear and spot on the time! In the end they gave her 0.4 time faults but what a start! Team morale was definitely up after this! Beth and Grey were next and were a little faster but got the job done and cruised home clear and a few too fast time faults! It was not long before Harriet was out of the start box; Bertie took it all in his stride and again put in a lovely clear with just a few time faults. Finally our anchorman Pete shot out of a start box and it was clear he is a jockey as Dream was flying round the course, perhaps flying a bit too fast as although they were clear they had a few time faults! All four had gone clear with just a few time faults – with eliminations happening all the time this was some achievement, but was it enough…………….

The open team won by a large margin, they had done it and to top it off Charlotte won the competition individually! There is no stopping Nantwich! A glass of bubbly later and a hunt round for Nantwich Riding Club tops the juniors were dressed ready for the presentation. Although not before I made Beth and Harriet clean their boots and Harriet tuck her shirt in! They outshone everyone at the prize giving. We nearly missed the fact we had also won the award for the team with all 4 scores to count in all our cheering. I had arm ache after signing for all the trophies! Several photos and a Horse and Hound interview later we were packing up and ready for home. What a day – believe me I slept most of the way home!

Congratulations to all of you, you were fantastic and the club is very proud of you.

 Sarah

Newsletter April 2008

Well here is the second newsletter of the year already – such a lot has happened since my last one. Whilst I am writing this there is snow falling outside!

Throughout the last three months we have run indoor show jumping and dressage competitions and on the whole these have been well supported. Our thanks most go to Michael Marren who kindly donated prizes at our last show jumping evening.

Back in February our junior dressage team headed off to Tushingham to compete in the Area 20 Winter Dressage Qualifier, which I am delighted to say they won! Congratulations.

The show jumping training with both Sue Barrett and Brett Kenyon was full and everyone involved learnt something, well, when they weren’t gossiping they did! You know who you are – Beth, Zoe, Harriet, Heather and Steph!

We then held our Pink Ball at Nantwich Town Football Club and what a night this was! There is a full report on the news page, for those of you who perhaps cannot remember it! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, although some of you look a little worse for wear on the photos! Thanks again to Terri and Clive for a fab venue.

In March the senior dressage team arrived at Southview to compete in the Area 20 Winter Dressage Qualifier. After a few alterations the team finished 3rd and just missed out on qualifying. Well done to Helen, Vicky and Corrie and not forgetting Terry who was flying the flag for the men!!!

I think I can confidently say the juniors were very spoilt at the Easter Egg Hunt!! Big and little kids enjoyed enormous amounts of chocolate and food, with everyone coming away full until next year! A big thank you to Lynn.

Juniors don’t forget to book onto the rallies – those of you who attended the last flatwork one deserve a medal for braving the wind and the rain! I hope you have managed to dry out by now!

On a very snowy morning two junior show jumping teams and a junior dressage team braved the elements to compete at the National Indoor Show Jumping and Dressage Championships at Hartpury. There is a full report on the Area 20 page however I am very proud to write that our junior team of Pete, Laura, Rebecca and Georgia won the show jumping and the second team of Charlotte, Helen, Zoe and Pete finished 8th out of 29 teams. Congratulations. The dressage team unfortunately ended up being a team of three but still put up an impressive performance to finish 12th – well done Will, Beth and Zoe.

Up and coming events (book early to avoid missing out):

·              Cross country training at Kelsall and later at Smallwood.

·              Area 20 Qualifiers in Horse Trials, Dressage, Show jumping and Style Jumping – names to your Team Captains.

·              Eventers Challenge – 6th July Brindley Hall Farm

·              Festival of the Hunter Championships – good luck to those who have qualified.

Finally is anyone interested in running the handy pony or gymkhana competitions at the summer shows? If so please let a member of the committee know. You should all be receiving your summer schedules soon, so good luck for the summer season and please support us as much as you can.

Nantwich Riding Club Champagne Ball

The first Nantwich Riding Club Ball was held at Nantwich football stadium on the 23rd February 2008.  The club decided to donate proceeds from the ball to charity, and as breast cancer is a cause that touches so many peoples lives, we chose Breast Cancer Research to benefit from this event.

Almost 200 guests attended the ball, made up of riding club members, family and friends. The evening started with a pink champagne reception, after which guests took their seats at aptly named tables… bucking bronco’s, silly fillies and Italian Stallions to name but a few!!

Before everyone took to the dance floor to strut their stuff, an auction of promises was held. Prizes were kindly donated by local businesses:

We thank all those who entered into the spirit of the evening and bid so generously!!

Through ticket sales, the auction of promises and donations on the evening, we are delighted to say that we raised over £3,400 to go to breast cancer research!
